  • Connected Through a Message on a Big White Van
By on July 16, 2013 | No Comments Comments
Today on the road I saw a white van.  There was nothing remarkable about it except the messages it had written all over the windows.  ”Race for the cure,” “run like a life depends on it,” and ” honk if you hate cancer!” Were written in washable window paint.

Something about reading those handwritten messages struck a chord in me.  I imagined the people who wrote those statements.  I could see their passion, and feel the pain that must have sparked that passion in the first place.  I could picture their reaction whenever someone read those messages and actually honked their car horn, signifying that they too hated cancer. Strong_Single_Mom_Network_PinterestSo we’re expanding some of the fun we like to have around the Strong Single Mom Network.  And of course, what’s more fun in the social media world than Pinterest?

I’ve connected with great resources, awesome recipes, fun style tips, DIY home decorating tips, and so much more…all through this fun site!

I know most of our single mother members are on the site, so let’s have some fun!

Post in the comments below your Pinterest ID.  The Strong Single Mom Network Pinterest account will connect with yours.  This way, the SSMN board can be filled with repins from our Strong Single Mom members!  We can share whatever’s near and dear to our hearts :)

Also, let me know what kind of boards you’d like to see on our Pinterest account.  This way we can repin the stuff from you that you want to see from other single moms, too.  I kick started the account with a few boards.

It’s just another way for us to stay connected to win another, and find a little encouragement, laughter, and great ideas along the way.

    Happy Pinning!

  • Oprah’s “No Phone Zone”
    By on May 6, 2010 | 1 Comment1 Comment Comments

If you haven’t heard about Oprah’s No Phone Zone pledge, I highly recommend checking it out.

As Busy Single Moms, it’s easy to think that Multi-Tasking is the only way to go.  And while it IS an important skill to master, we have to keep in mind that there is a time and place.  While you’re driving IS NOT the time.

Did you know that when we start texting and driving with our kids in the car, we endanger their lives just as if we had 4 alcohlic beverages and then got behind the wheel?

Even when the kids ARE NOT in the car, we need to stay vigilant and not distract ourselves with the constant flow of communication we’ve become accustomed to.  As Single Mothers, who will care for our children if we become severly injured or killed in a car accident?  It is our responsibility to do all that we can to ensure our own safety, as well as the safety of our Children.

It took careful consideration before I took the pledge.  But I couldn’t ignore the facts.  I pledged to never text while driving again, and to only use a hands-free device if I have to talk on the phone while I drive.

I took the pledge.  I strongly encourage you to do the same.
