Halloween Safety Tips for Kids and Pets
-
Halloween: It’s only a few days away, and most kids are already getting sugar highs just from TALKING about the loot they’ll get when they go Trick or Treating!
As fun as this holiday can be, it’s also a time when kids, pets, and even all of us “grown-ups” can get into trouble. As our kids go Trick or Treating and we head off to adult dress-up parties, it’s a good time to be reminded of important safety tips. Fundamental Martial Arts‘ owner Scott Shephard compiled this fantastic list of Halloween Safety Tips. Thanks to Scott for sharing this with the Strong Single Mom Network!
A couple of my personal favorite tips from this list are:
- Never cross between parked cars or out driveways
- Don’t assume the right of way. Motorists may have trouble seeing Trick-or-Treaters. Just because one car stops, doesn’t mean others will!
- If you take your kids to a sponsored event, like a safe Halloween thrown by your church or community center, make sure to keep an eye on them at al times. Even though it seems less dangerous, you are still in a strange environment full of people that you don’t know. All it takes is a minute with your back turned to find your child gone. (Side note from me: Older kids should have a friend or sibling they stay with at all times!)
- Avoid candy that has loose wrappings, is unwrapped, has puncture holes, or is homemade.
- If going to an adult Halloween party, make sure that you don’t drink and drive. Use a designated driver if alcohol is being consumed.
